A new report from the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) says North Korea is strengthening its denial of religion through various means, including torture and the death penalty.
The report, released on Wednesday this week, said the North Korean government makes it difficult for people's enjoyment of the right to freedom of expression, conscience, religion or belief, and the violation of rights and freedoms in North Korea are continuing Serious and systemic.
Based on interviews with North Korean separatists, the report records 68 cases of Christianity and Korean religion, both of which are still widely practiced in North Korea.
Suyeon Yoo, co-author of the report, said: "The destruction of the religious community is the foundation of the ideological defense that only supports Kim Jong Un and the North Korean leadership.".
