China provides 10,000 doses of vaccine to Myanmar ethnic militias.
China has supplied more than 10,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine to Myanmar ethnic militias present in the north to curb the influx of Covid-19 patients into China. This was confirmed by a spokesman for the Myanmar Armed Forces on July 24.
The Kachin Independence Army (Kachin) is an ethnic armed group present in northern Myanmar. To prevent cases of Covid-19 infection in their area, the ethnic group has asked for a vaccine from China. In response, China provided more than 10,000 doses of the vaccine to the group.
"The vaccines were provided by Yunnan provincial authorities," Mr Col Naw Bu, a spokesman for the Kachin Independence Army, told AFP. However, the spokesman did not specify the time given by China.
Meanwhile, Mr Col Naw Bu said that of those vaccines, the Kachin Independence Army bought some and some were aid. Currently, cases of Covid-19 infection have skyrocketed in Myanmar. In addition, many Myanmar people have a positive Covid-19 in Yunnan Province, China. In the past, China has closed the city of Ruili, which borders Myanmar, after a series of Covid-19 cases.
So far, Myanmar has had a total of 260,000 cases of Covid-19 infection, with more than 6,000 deaths. More than 180,000 people have been healed.
